Following on from my blog about all the joys of the snow I have come to the following conclusion.
I don't like the snow.
I had to stay in work all day yesterday coz of it.
I work from 9-3 and then 5-7.30.
Yesterday I had to go in early coz my brother was working from 8.
So we left early coz of the white stuff.
TWENTY PAST SEVEN is the time I got into work!
Yep 7.20.Now remember 9 is my start time. That is 1 hour and 40 minutes in work unpaid.
On top of that I couldn’t get home at 3 coz it was snowing again and traffic was bumper to bumper. So I stayed in work to go back at 5.
That’s 2 more unpaid hours in work.
Then to top off my wonderful day I had to walk home in the freezing and the wet.
I left work after meeting my mam at 7.35 I got home at 8.45.
I couldn't feel my feet or my legs and I think I soaked up half the snow in my shoes alone.
But it can be worse.
I'll look back on it and laugh. I am already.
I know people have it harder than me.
I know I am fortunate in what I have and where I live.
I went to a team leader training course for Habitat for Humanity we were shown a 3-5 minute clip of how the world would be if it were only inhabited by 100 people.
It would be like this.
61 Asians,
12 Europeans,
8 North Americans,
5 South American and Caribbean,
13 Africans,
1 Oceania.
50 Women 50 men.
47 live in urban areas.
9 are disabled.
33 are Christian (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Anglican and others).
18 are Muslim.
14 are Hindus.
16 are non-religious.
6 are Buddhist.
13 practice other Religion
.
43 live without basic sanitation.
18 live without an improved water source.
6 people own 59% of the entire wealth of the community.
13 are hungry and malnourished.14 can't read.
Only 7 are educated to secondary level.
Only 12 have a computer.
Only 3 have an internet connection.
1 adult aged 15-49 has HIV/AIDS.
The village spend more than $1.12 TRILLION on military expenditures.
And only $100 billion on development aid.
If you keep your food in a refrigerator, your clothes in a closet, if you have a bed to sleep in, a roof over your head. You are richer than 75% of the entire word population.
If you have a bank account you are one of the 30 wealthiest people in the world.
18 struggle to live on$1.00 per day or less.
53 struggle to live on $2.00 per day or less.
We are considerably more lucky than we thing.
And even more so than some people dream.
Don't take it for granted.
